Why should I choose an ideal client?

There are several reasons why it is useful to choose an ideal customer:

1. You position yourself as an expert, allowing you to charge a higher price.

You would rather be a big fish in a small pond than a mini fish in a mega ocean. This makes it easier to get customers. For example, if an IT company is looking for a copywriter, they would rather choose a copywriter with a background in IT articles than a copywriter who does a little bit of everything. In this way, you excel as an expert in your market, so you can also ask for higher prices. After all, a lung surgeon earns more than an ordinary surgeon.

2. Your target group will feel addressed more quickly and will therefore buy something from you faster.You want to be able to address your customer very specifically. This way you can give concrete examples of what someone is looking for and what pain he or she is experiencing right now. This gives your potential customers the feeling that you can read their minds and that you really understand them. That way they take action faster.

3. It is more satisfying if you only help the people you really feel connected to. If you only work with customers you like, your energy is higher, you can handle more and you don't feel drained. Without an ideal customer, you sometimes attract people who don't suit you at all, to whom you feel 'stuck'.

4. Especially if you ultimately want to help the whole world, it is smart to start small. This way you quickly create ambassadors who promote you to others and you grow much faster than if you immediately choose a broad target group.

Many entrepreneurs do eventually choose an ideal customer, but make it far too 'broad'. For example, they only select demographic characteristics. Think of the choice between a man or woman or a certain age category. In principle, you are not targeting a specific target group, but an entire population group. It is necessary to be able to really address your customer specifically. You may therefore also select on the basis of psychographic characteristics. How does anyone think? What do they dream of? What are they worried about? What are their limiting beliefs? Only in this way can you fully immerse yourself in this target group and hit them in the right way.

Choosing an ideal customer does not mean that you will never be able to help other customers again. Your current satisfied customers will tell about you in their network so that others will also knock on your door. If that makes you happy, you can of course work with other customers. Your communication on your website and social media channels will only remain focused on your ideal customer.
